Late Night Ramblings

it’s late.  not too bad.  just wrapping up the day.  what to do in these quiet hours?  normally i could write a song, but i’m songed out at the moment.  i got asked in an interview if i’ve started thinking of my next album yet.  nope.  i’m still enjoying this one.  i hope you are all sleeping in such tender peace and surrounded by lots of love.  goodnight for now.

W Hotel

i’m sitting in the lobby of the W hotel in LA.  on my laptop catching up on some research i promised a friend of mine.  reflecting a bit on the style of folks here and the six different types of music piped through the various rooms and restaurants.  sting is playing overhead.

the trip to nyc was super successful on so many levels.  mostly because i made a bunch more friends.  if you can believe it, i even made a few friends who grew up in cleveland.  in fact, this boy named sam bought me a drink at the W hotel (underbar) on 49th and lex and guess what…turns out he not only grew up in cleveland, but actually in the small town that i’m from…strongsville!  now he’s the chef at a restaurant on broadway between 20th and 21st called "punch."  there were some great veggie dishes.  he’s super cute, but we never managed to catch up again after that night.  bummer…  maybe one of you could drop in and say hello for me!

went to my dear friends’ benefit party for their documentary on kashmir last night at club 310 in santa monica.  met with many old friends from college.  a few of them had even come to the cd release party but left before we got a chance to catch up.  so lovely to feel how happy they were for me and how excited they are.

sometimes, it’s easier for folks on the outside to see your dream.  when you’re in it, you can lose sight because you’re just taking it a day at a time.  one of the reasons it’s so important to keep my friends close during this trip.  to make sure that they remind me of what i wanted in the first place.

NYC Bound

natasha and i are finally here in nyc!  we boarded a jetblue flight at midnight last night from the ontario international airport.  the flight was jam packed but we thought we would sleep right through the flight, neck pillows in hand.

how were we supposed to know the kind of weirdos we’d be sitting next to?!?

natasha and climbed into our seats.  i had the window seat.  natasha took the middle.  and a teenage boy, maybe 16 or so, sat in the aisle seat.  as we were taking off and engaging in some harmless girl talk, i couldn’t believe what this kid was doing!  natasha noticed the expression on my face and leaned in and said, "what?"

"girl, oh my god. that kid is picking his nose!"  we both started laughing uncontrollably, so hard that our stomachs started to hurt.  but that didn’t stop him.  no siree…he just kep right on digging away.  half his hand all up in his nostrils…  and then he had the nerve to touch the tv and light buttons.  doesn’t it make you wonder what you end up touching in any given day just doing your thing?

this natasha here… i just HAD to jump in… so after shanu fell asleep, i tried to do the same.  but the boy to my left kept squirming (poor me), hogging the armrest (which i didn’t want to touch anyways), and… dropping stinkbombs (no joke, yuck).  at one point i glanced across the aisle… his mom had opened a big box she brought on board, pulled out a mannequin head and began styling the wig it was wearing (hmmm).  oh, and she was a nosepicker too.  apparently inappropriate behavior in public runs in the fam.  ah well, no sleep, but we’re now in nyc, baby!

we managed to get to natasha’s friend’s place in midtown and crash for a couple of hours.  i had a phone interview with ismat mangla of nirali magazine when i woke up.  now we’re slowly getting our day going and figuring out what our plan is for the night.  heading to a desivision event and then off to the w to meet up with some friends…

i love new york!
